In yesterday’s blog, I discussed sexist attitudes prevalent in the UK police force.
However, I return today with better news, this time concerning UK universities, many of which now provide training of how to understand sexual consent. In fact, such courses are mandatory for first-year students in some institutions.
Hopefully, this will increase awareness of sexual harassment, hate crimes and violence against women. Prevention and response are covered in the training, and university staff and students’ unions are being proactive to prevent incidents from occurring and to offer support for female students feeling threatened.
This is a new and ongoing project in universities, and I’m so glad to hear action is being taken. Hopefully, ideas generated going forward, will also benefit high school students and people in the workforce.
It’s a start. Below is a link to the British university document “Changing the Culture.”
