I won’t post all the feedback from generous readers who responded to my first newsletter.

However, I do want to share this message, because here’s someone for whom “Dancing in the dark” brought back memories. It appears the meters I wrote about were common in Ireland too, back in the day.

Hello Sheila,

Thank you for the first edition. Your talent for perfectly describing any situation is  again evident in “dancing in the dark”. It brought back memories of my own as a child when I had to stand on a chair to reach the meter which was located high up behind the front door. It accepted only shillings and it was not always easy to find one in the dark. I can also recall doing my school homework by candlelight. Thank you for rekindling these special memories.

John.
